In the year 2000, BP Drakensberg (PTY)LTD, was established as a wholly owned subsidiary company of BP Southern Africa (PTY) Ltd to meet the entrepreneurial requirements of the petroleum market in the province of Kwazulu Natal. The shares in the company were later sold to the managing director (Darin Samuels).
The company grew rapidly and acquired the wholesale operations of BP Mpumalanga (PTY) LTD. Thereafter the company name was changed to Drakensberg oil (PTY) LTD.
The company strategically diversified and invested in other business, including the acquisition of a 50% stake in Atlantic oil (PTY) LTD. (A wholesale oil company in the Western Cape province).
In 2015, the wholesale fuel operations of Drakensberg oil (PTY) LTD were sold to Puma Africa investment.
Samuels Group (PTY) LTD was then established to house the balance of the petroleum operations and the interest in the other companies.
